Yummy Fried Mee Hoon
When we went back to Ipoh some time ago, KK brough hubby and I for this absolutely delicious fried mee-hoon at a shop that only opens at 9pm, and has a waiting time of 45 minutes before you get to eat after you place your order. It was so unbelievably tasty that the next time we went back to Ipoh, I was jumping up and down looking forward to going there again. I mean, the prawns that come with the mee-hoon are so fresh, big and crunchy....*drools* Gotta get the name of the shop the next time I go back...
Anyways, we were hunting for a new place to try last weekend so I flipped through my trusty Foodster guide and there was a recommendation on a coffeeshop at Paramount (it's a corner coffeeshop located at the same row as KFC but at the opposite end, near the old Ruby theatre) that apparently has good Wan Tan Mee, yam cake and....fried mee hoon! And so far, my Foodster guide has NEVER failed me...so off we went. (We weren't too sure if we got the right coffeeshop at first...but there was a stall in there selling Wan Tan mee, another selling yam cake, and one more selling fried mee hoon...can't be coincidental, right?)
Anyways, the Wan Tan Mee was pretty good...but the highlight of the night was that I might've found the equivalent of Ipoh's fried mee-hoon at this coffeeshop!! Sure, the prawns were much smaller, but they get awarded extra brownie points for adding one of my absolute favourite bad-for-health food into the mee-hoon....lap cheong (Chinese sausages)!!!!! Oh so very very very yummy. We had to ta pau more than half the noodles home (too full from the Wan Tan Mee and sweet desserts that we ordered), but when I heated it up at night...it tasted just as good and I polished it off all by myself (yes, I did offer some to hubby...)!! OoOooo..can't wait to go back there!
Oh...and if you like Sar Hor Fun, there's a really good shop located at the row behind this coffeeshop...very very light and non-oily. I can't remember the name of the shop though, but I think there's only one shop selling Sar Hor Fun there...=)
